Portugal legend Pepe bids farewell to professional football

Portugal’s esteemed defender, Pepe, has announced his retirement from professional football, concluding a distinguished 23-year career.

At 41 years old, Pepe leaves behind an impressive legacy, having spent a decade with Real Madrid and nine years with FC Porto across two separate tenures. He amassed over 700 club appearances during his career.

Pepe’s achievements include three UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga championships, and four Portuguese league titles. On the international stage, he was a key member of the Portugal team that won the UEFA EURO 2016 and earned 141 caps for the national side.

His career concluded with Portugal’s loss to France in the EURO 2024, where he set a record as the oldest outfield player in the tournament’s history.
