PDP warns APC to brace for voters’ anger over attacks in Edo State
On Monday, September 9, 2024, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging them to prepare for the anger of Edo voters if they continue their attacks and harassment of innocent citizens.
Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, delivered this warning during a media briefing in Abuja. He expressed concern over ongoing attacks, harassment, and illegal arrests of Edo State residents by APC leaders and certain compromised police officers. This, he said, is an attempt to intimidate voters and rig the upcoming governorship election on September 21, 2024.
Ologunagba highlighted that with PDP candidate Dr. Asue Ighodalo leading with overwhelming support, the APC and its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, have resorted to violence and harassment to undermine the will of the people.
He noted specific incidents:
– On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, APC-controlled operatives attempted to arrest Chief Francis Inegbeniki, a recent defector to the PDP.
– On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, APC agents forcibly took Shina, another recent PDP defector, from his home, firing shots to intimidate residents.
– On Sunday, September 8, 2024, APC thugs attacked a PDP rally in Edo North, damaging campaign materials. Despite this, PDP members and supporters defended the rally vigorously.
Ologunagba urged the APC to stop their actions and warned that the people of Edo State are determined to make their voices heard.
