PDP rejects Ondo election results, vows to challenge APC victory, expose alleged electoral fraud
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has broken its silence on the outcome of the Ondo State gubernatorial election, firmly rejecting the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. In a statement released on Tuesday, November 19, the PDP made it clear that it intends to challenge the results in court, accusing the ruling party of engaging in electoral misconduct to manipulate the will of the people.
On Sunday, November 17, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Governor Aiyedatiwa the winner of the election, with a total of 366,781 votes. His main challenger, PDP’s Ajayi Agboola, secured 117,845 votes. Despite this, the PDP claims that the election process was marred by irregularities, and they are determined to take action.
“We have uncovered lots of actions undertaken to compromise the electoral desires of the people,” said Ayo Fadaka, special adviser to Agboola, in the statement issued on behalf of the party. The PDP believes that the electoral process was tainted by what it calls “unabated criminality,” which was allegedly perpetrated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—the body entrusted with ensuring free and fair elections.
The statement further asserts that the party’s only option to reclaim what it calls a “stolen mandate” is through legal action. “We are hopeful that both man and God, who is the ultimate, will give us justice,” the PDP concluded, signaling its intent to seek a court ruling that overturns Aiyedatiwa’s victory.
As tensions rise in the wake of the election, the PDP’s challenge promises to fuel further political drama in Ondo State. The party is mobilizing its supporters and legal team in preparation for the upcoming legal battle. The outcome of this challenge could have significant implications for the credibility of the electoral process and the future of Ondo politics.
