Patrick Doyle calls “I am a Chosen” phrase nonsensical and un-Christian

Prominent Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has voiced strong criticism of the phrase “I am a Chosen,” which is frequently chanted by members of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries.

His remarks come in the wake of a social media debate sparked by viral testimonies from the church. In a post on his Facebook page, Doyle labeled the phrase as “nonsensical” and insisted it is not part of Christian doctrine.

He stated, “The phrase ‘I am a Chosen,’ used by members of the religious sect called ‘Chosen,’ should never be connected to the Body of Christ. The members of this sect don’t have Jesus in mind when chanting the phrase. Their adoration is unequivocally directed at a man, their GO. The phrase does not mention or imply Jesus in any way.”

Doyle emphasized that to associate this phrase with glorifying Jesus Christ is to mock the Christian faith. He added, “Content creators and bloggers using the phrase are not mocking the Church of God but the sect and its founder.”

Recently, actor IK Ogbonna also urged the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to address the issue of “fake miracles” in churches. Other celebrities, including actress Kemi Lala Akindoju, have similarly criticized the church’s teachings.

In response to the controversy surrounding the “I am a Chosen” phrase, CAN condemned a viral testimony from a congregant who claimed that “an angel” had provided answers to her during an examination.
