Ondo youths protest at INEC headquarters, demand removal of REC

A group of youths from Ondo State gathered at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja to demand the removal of Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the state.

The protest comes ahead of the Ondo governorship election, scheduled for November 16, 2024. The youths expressed their concerns by carrying drums and placards, singing and dancing as they called for the REC’s redeployment.

In related news, INEC announced that 55,859 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were collected in Ondo State ahead of the election. According to a statement from Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, this number was collected over a five-day period, representing 62.2 percent of the 89,777 available cards.

Olumekun highlighted that this was the highest percentage of PVCs collected in such a short time since the Continuous Voter Registration process began in 2015.
