Messi-less Argentina dispatches Costa Rica in friendly

Argentina eased past Costa Rica in their last international friendly of this break, beating them 3-1.

Lionel Scaloni, Argentina manager, started SL Benfica’s Angel Di Maria, Manchester United teenage sensation Alejandro Garnacho, Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero, and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.

It turned out to be a comfortable victory for Scaloni’s men, though they went behind in the 34th minute from Costa Rica’s Manfred Ugalde.

Argentina equalized through a Di Maria goal in the 52nd minute, took the lead four minutes later through a Mac Allister goal, then sealed the victory in the 77th minute through substitute Lautaro Martinez.

This win means Argentina have won their two friendlies this international break.

Argentina is still ranked No. 1 in the world, having won the World Cup in December 2022.
