Maresca explains Enzo Fernandez’s absence from Chelsea starting XI
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has shared the reason for leaving Enzo Fernandez out of the starting lineup, stating that the midfield partnership of Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo is providing the team with better balance and physicality.
In a press conference on Friday, November 1, ahead of their match against Manchester United, Maresca explained, “First of all, it’s a matter of balance.
Right now, Romeo and Moi give us physicality and strength in the middle, which is why we opted for Malo [Gusto] in the pocket when playing without Enzo.”
Fernandes has not started in Chelsea’s last two Premier League games. Maresca emphasized that while Fernandes is currently not in the lineup, it’s simply a tactical decision. “I know you’re looking for a deeper reason for Enzo’s absence, but it’s straightforward—he’s not playing right now. We have a lot of games coming up, and he will definitely get his chances in the future.”
