Labour party denounces ex-official for alleged impersonation, financial misrepresentation
The Labour Party has issued a strong warning regarding Ms. Oluchi Oparah, a former National Treasurer, accusing her of falsely presenting herself as the National Women Leader and reportedly using this title to seek financial support.
In an official statement released Thursday on X, Labour Party National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh clarified that Oparah had been indefinitely suspended in November 2023 for “anti-party activities” and stressed that she was neither elected nor appointed to the position of National Women Leader. The party labeled her actions as “impersonation,” stating that Oparah has attended forums and events under the false pretense of holding the role.
The statement described Oparah’s actions as deceitful and warned of her alleged intentions to gain financially through her misrepresentation. “A person who pretends to be someone else in order to deceive others, especially for fraudulent gain, is an impostor,” the party asserted. Labour Party leaders expressed embarrassment over the situation and characterized her activities as “dubious.”
Reaffirming the party’s leadership, Labour officials stated that Mrs. Dudu Manuga is the legitimate National Women Leader, the only one authorized to oversee Labour Party women’s activities across Nigeria and abroad. The Labour Party advised organizations—including the Inter-Party Advisory Council, The Kukah Foundation, and government and security agencies—to be wary of Oparah’s alleged impersonation. They urged anyone approached by Oparah to report the incident to the police immediately.
