Fubara committed impeachable offense after Supreme Court ruling – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that Governor Similayi Fubara has committed an impeachable offense.
Wike, who was previously the Governor of Rivers State, criticized Fubara’s actions, saying it is outrageous to claim that only three people could form a state assembly to make laws for an entire state.
This comment comes after the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday, February 28, 2025, which nullified the recent local government elections in Rivers State. The court also upheld the legitimacy of the 27-member Martin Amaewhule-led State Assembly.
Speaking to reporters after the court ruling, Wike emphasized that the court made it clear that a democracy cannot exist without a functioning legislature.
“The matter has been laid to rest by the highest court of the land,” he said. “We cannot have a democracy without the legislature.”
Wike continued, saying, “It’s unheard of where someone will say that three people will constitute an Assembly to make laws for the entire state. It’s not about personal preferences, but about whether three people can truly make laws for a state.”
