EPL: Arsenal jump Liverpool, Man City to top of Premier League table

Arsenal has regained its position at the top of the Premier League table, three months after losing it to Liverpool in December 2023. Mikel Arteta’s men climbed over Liverpool and Manchester City to go become league leaders after beating Brentford in a London derby this evening.

Arsenal welcomed Thomas Frank’s men to the Emirates, with the North London side in third place, and 12 teams separating them and their opponents. The Gunners started the game well, taking the lead in the 19th minute, before an error from their keeper Aaron Ramsdale showed Brentford a way into the game in the 45th minute through Yoane Wissa.

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz scored in the 86th minute to give them the lead again, and ultimately, win them the game.

The result leaves Arsenal temporarily first, pending Man City and Liverpool’s clash tomorrow, where the winner of the clash likely goes top. If Man City draws Liverpool, Liverpool will still go top. Manchester City will need a win to go top of the table.

With 10 games to go, Premier League teams enter what is referred to as the “business end of the season”, where a slip up could damage your chances of meeting your objectives. This is important for teams vying for top-four finishes, the league title, or just a place in the league come next season.
