El-Rufai says he won’t leave the country despite arrest threats

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has made it clear that he will not go into exile, even though there are rumors that he may be arrested.
He explained that being arrested or facing punishment for political views is not a new thing. El-Rufai said, “I have been arrested and detained three times before for speaking out against past governments.” He added that even after tough times, there is always a new day, and life keeps going.
El-Rufai was responding to a post on social media from @IU_Wakilii, who claimed that there were plans to arrest him when he returns to Nigeria, with made-up charges. He said, “Silence is no longer golden. Inaction has never been an option.” He also told his followers that he would focus on his work in Nigeria instead of his past plans to study and learn new languages.
He continued, “I’ve heard these rumors about being arrested since July 2024 when the rumors started spreading from the Kaduna Assembly. They were upset when we questioned the false accusations and tried to mess with the court process, and that’s still happening now.”
“They’ve tried to scare me by sending threats to my friends, family, and colleagues because they want me to leave the country. But I won’t. I’m putting my other plans aside and I will stay in Nigeria, more than ever before.”
El-Rufai also shared his thoughts on death, saying, “For death, it’s when Allah decides.”
He ended by saying, “For those who don’t sleep well when I’m in Nigeria, know that I will be back in time for the launch of President IBB’s memoir on February 20.”
“We trust only Allah, we fear no one but Almighty Allah, and we hope for the best while preparing for the worst.”
