Edo state approves recruitment of 500 teachers to improve education
The Edo State Government has approved the hiring of 500 new teachers to fill many of the vacancies in public schools across the state.
Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, the newly appointed Commissioner for Education, announced this plan shortly after starting work at the Ministry of Education in Benin City.
He explained that the recruitment process will take place in stages, with the first group of teachers being hired soon. The goal of this recruitment is to improve the number of qualified teachers in public schools across Edo.
Iyamu emphasized that the Governor of Edo, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is committed to improving the education sector. He said, “Governor Okpebholo has placed a high value on education, and this move is part of his promise to ensure that all public schools in Edo are staffed with enough qualified teachers.”
The commissioner also noted that gone are the days when schools had just two or three teachers. He urged well-qualified Nigerians to apply, emphasizing that the recruitment will be based entirely on merit.
“We’re excited to announce that Governor Okpebholo has approved the hiring of 500 teachers. This will be done in phases, starting with the first group. Our aim is to ensure that every Edo child receives the best education possible, while also working to improve the state’s infrastructure,” Iyamu said.
He also encouraged qualified applicants to apply through the official website, warning them not to pay any fees to anyone or group in connection with the recruitment process.
