On Friday, April 25, the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced a major achievement, as more than 500,000 Nigerian students have now applied for student loans through its online portal.
This exciting news was shared by NELFUND’s spokesperson, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, in a statement.
This big milestone comes just months after NELFUND was officially created on Wednesday, April 3, when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the Student Loan Act into law.
Commenting on the progress, NELFUND’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, said, “This is more than just a number; it’s a signal of hope for families across Nigeria. We are witnessing a nationwide demand for opportunity, and NELFUND is proud to be at the heart of this transformation.”
“Since the launch of the portal, students across the country have actively engaged with the application process for both institutional and upkeep loans, demonstrating the relevance and urgency of the Fund’s efforts,” the statement added.
Back in March 2025, NELFUND shared that a total of N45.1 billion in student loans had already been disbursed across the country.
