Bwala calls Peter Obi failed politician, questions his understanding of democracy

On Tuesday, March 25, Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, fiercely criticized Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, calling him a “failed politician.” Bwala’s comments came in response to Obi’s recent claim that democracy in Nigeria has collapsed.
The controversy began on Monday, March 24, when Obi spoke at the 60th birthday colloquium of former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, in Abuja. During his speech, Obi stated that the progress Nigeria had made since returning to civilian rule in 1999 had been significantly undone.
In his rebuttal, Bwala took to his X handle on Tuesday, March 25, to challenge Obi’s understanding of democracy. Bwala argued that Obi had no history of democratic activism, from his school days to his political career.
He said, “It is funny how failed politicians are trying to redefine democracy. @PeterObi said democracy has collapsed. Does he even know the meaning of democracy?”
Bwala further pointed out, “When people were fighting for democracy, Gregory was buying and selling. He doesn’t have a history of any democratic activism from his school days to date.”
He also accused Obi of using inflammatory rhetoric, adding, “His expertise lies in instigating hate speech and vitriol. Talk is cheap.”
This public exchange highlights the ongoing tension and political discourse surrounding the state of democracy in Nigeria.
