Bauchi governor’s son’s appeal to Seyi Tinubu shows failure of leadership, says PRP

On Tuesday, March 18, the Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) criticized Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, the son of Governor Bala Mohammed, for appealing to Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, to assist Bauchi youths with employment and business opportunities.
Shamsuddeen had made a public appeal ahead of Seyi’s visit to Bauchi, urging him not to reduce the state’s youth to beggars by handing out food during Ramadan. In a Facebook post on Monday, he requested that Seyi Tinubu provide more sustainable opportunities, such as employment, resources for businesses, and training in fields like crypto trading, rather than offering temporary handouts.
Shamsuddeen wrote: “Please when coming to Bauchi for the #RHYE, empower our youths with employment, Keke NAPEP, money to start a business, ICT infrastructure, and training for crypto trading, and so on. Please, we, the youths of Bauchi, don’t need rice and food in nylon bags during Ramadan. Teach our youths how to fish, rather than feed them for one day. They are not beggars.”
PRP, however, took issue with Shamsuddeen’s request, calling it a sign of his father’s failure to address the pressing issues of unemployment and poverty in the state. In a statement signed by the party’s State Secretary, Wada Abdullahi, the PRP questioned why the governor’s son was appealing to the President’s son for help instead of holding his own father accountable for the welfare of the youth.
PRP also criticized the Bala Mohammed administration for worsening economic conditions by demolishing business structures without providing alternatives. The party warned that the youth of Bauchi would not be satisfied with temporary solutions and would demand real change in the upcoming 2027 elections.
The PRP statement reads, in part: “The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Bauchi State Chapter, wishes to address the recent appeal made by Shamsuddeen, son of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, to Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, regarding the empowerment of Bauchi youths.
“Mr. Shamsuddeen’s request for Seyi Tinubu to provide employment opportunities and resources for entrepreneurial ventures is indeed a noble sentiment. However, we find it deeply troubling that a son of a sitting governor would appeal to the son of the president for solutions that fall squarely within the responsibilities of his own father.”
PRP concluded by emphasizing that Shamsuddeen’s call for help reflected the shortcomings of the current administration and revealed a failure to effectively address the needs of the youth in Bauchi State.
