Ayra Starr reminds me of myself, she deserves more accolades – Tems

Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has praised her colleague, Ayra Starr, for her hardwork, saying the 21-year-old singer reminds her of herself.

Speaking in a recent interview with NPR, Tems said Ayra Starr deserves more accolades.

“I would like to give flowers to this young girl called Ayra Starr. We met years ago. She reminds me so much of myself, she’s such a hardworking girl and she deserves some flowers,” Tems said.

She also hinted at a possible collaboration between them.

Starr recently unveiled her highly-anticipated sophomore album titled, ‘The Year I Turned 21’, which follows the success of her 2021 debut project, ’19 & Dangerous’.

With numerous awards and accolades, Starr has become one of the continent’s fastest-rising young artistes.

She was among the Nigerian music stars nominated for this year’s Grammy Awards.

“Rush” earned her a first Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance category, making her the youngest Nigerian female artist to be nominated for a Grammy Award in that category.

The music star, however, lost to South African sensation, Tyla.
