Arsenal’s title hopes depend on striker signing – Shaka Hislop

Former West Ham United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has expressed his doubts about Arsenal’s ability to win the Premier League title, citing concerns about their attacking options.

Despite the Gunners’ impressive defensive record, Hislop believes that Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are not reliable enough to lead the team to championship success.

“Arsenal’s 20-year wait for a title will continue unless they sign a new striker,” Hislop said in an interview with ESPN. He emphasized that while Havertz has shown glimpses of brilliance, he is not convinced that the German forward has what it takes to be a top-tier striker. Similarly, Hislop praised Jesus’s initial impact at Arsenal but expressed reservations about his consistency.

Hislop’s comments come after Arsenal’s narrow misses in the past two seasons, finishing five points behind Manchester City in 2022/2023 and two points behind in 2023/2024. The former goalkeeper’s assessment highlights the need for Arsenal to strengthen their attacking lineup if they hope to bridge the gap and claim the title.

With the transfer window still open, Arsenal fans will be watching anxiously to see if the club will heed Hislop’s advice and bring in a new striker to bolster their chances of winning the Premier League title.
