APC slams Atiku, Peter Obi, El-Rufai as ‘opportunists’ over Rivers crisis

On Thursday, March 20, 2025, the All Progressives Congress (APC) launched a strong criticism of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, calling them “roving opposition opportunists.”
The ruling party accused these opposition leaders of sitting by and doing nothing to help resolve the crisis in Rivers State, which it described as a serious threat to peace, safety, and national assets.
In a statement, Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, said, “We urge Nigerians to ignore roving opposition opportunists seeking to exploit the situation in Rivers State to escalate tension in the country.”
Morka continued, accusing the opposition figures of issuing “a lengthy, convoluted, and utterly meaningless statement intended to get their names in the headlines and stir up tension,” rather than taking action to help ease the crisis.
The APC, however, praised the National Assembly for quickly approving President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, following constitutional guidelines. Morka commended the leadership and members of the 10th Assembly for acting in the best interest of the people, noting that the opposition also put aside partisanship to support the proclamation.
He also emphasized President Tinubu’s dedication to maintaining peace, law, and order in Rivers State, while ensuring that all branches of government work together for the well-being and good governance of the state.
