Cancer treatment now accessible locally, says FG
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, says President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has brought real improvements to the country’s healthcare sector—most notably, making cancer treatment available within Nigeria.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah on Thursday, Idris said Tinubu’s administration has established six state-of-the-art cancer treatment centres across the six geopolitical zones, including one in Enugu.
“No need to travel abroad for cancer care”
According to Idris, these facilities are equipped with world-class technology and staffed by trained professionals, putting them on par with treatment centres abroad.
“Anyone still choosing to travel out for cancer care is doing so by choice—not because we lack the facilities or the experts,” he said.
Enugu praised as a regional model
Idris also praised the development strides in Enugu under Governor Mbah, calling the state “the heart of the South-East.” He noted that both state and federal governments are now collaborating more closely to deliver visible impact.

Highlighting the president’s performance so far, Idris said Tinubu has moved with such urgency that it feels like he’s already in his second term.
From health sector reforms to improved national security coordination, the minister credited the administration’s policy direction and leadership choices for the progress made.
“Security agencies are now working more closely together, and that’s why we’re seeing results,” he added.
More work ahead, but progress is real
While acknowledging that Nigeria still faces major challenges, Idris emphasized that the Tinubu administration is committed to doing more.
“We’re not yet where we want to be, but the president is taking the right steps. He’s focused on results—and people are beginning to see the difference,” he said.
