Scores killed, others abducted as terrorists attack Kebbi village

Suspected bandits have reportedly killed numerous residents and abducted several others in Tadurga village, located in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, following a brutal overnight attack on Monday, June 16.

Eyewitnesses say the attackers stormed the village in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately, looting shops, abducting villagers, and rustling livestock.

One resident, Audu Sule, recounted the chaos:

“They came en masse, shooting indiscriminately, broke into shops to loot items, then went on to kill as many as they could, abduct people, and rustle our cows.”

According to Sule, the scale of the violence was unlike anything seen in the area in recent times, especially since the assumption of office by Governor Nasir Idris. He described the incident as the worst attack yet, catching many villagers by surprise.

Another resident, Abdullah Zuru, noted that while the Zuru Emirate had recently enjoyed relative peace, the latest attack marks a worrying reversal.

“Despite this recent attack, Zuru Emirate has been experiencing relative peace,” he said, referencing the government’s efforts that had previously allowed farmers to return to their land and harvest crops safely.

As of press time, the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, had not responded to calls or provided any official statement regarding the attack.

Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties or those abducted, but residents insist the toll is significant. The attack adds to the rising wave of insecurity plaguing northwestern Nigeria, where communities continue to grapple with banditry, kidnappings, and rural violence.
