Benue declares June 18 public holiday for President Tinubu’s visit

The Benue State Government has declared Wednesday, June 18, 2025, a public holiday to mark the official visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state.

According to a statement signed by Serumun Deborah Aber, Secretary to the State Government, the President will embark on a one-day condolence visit to commiserate with the government and people of Benue following recent violent attacks that have claimed numerous lives.

The government explained that the public holiday is meant to give residents the opportunity to receive the President warmly. However, the directive excludes essential service workers, including medical personnel, security agencies, and banking institutions.

“Residents across the state are encouraged to come out in large numbers to welcome the President and his delegation during what has been described as a significant and symbolic visit,” the statement said.

President Tinubu had earlier announced plans to cut short his schedule to visit Benue in light of the recent security crisis, underscoring the seriousness with which the federal government views the situation.
