Rivers crisis: CHRADA condemns bomb attacks in APP office
The Coalition for Human Rights Advocacy in Africa, (CHRADA), is speaking out strongly against a recent attack on the Action People’s Party (APP) office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
On Monday, August 12, there was a huge explosion at the APP office caused by an improvised explosive device (IED). The blast caused a lot of damage to the building.
Dr. Joyce Anderson Idakwo, who leads CHRADA, said in a statement, “This is a clear attempt to disrupt the local government election process and undermine democracy.”
The Coalition is really concerned about the use of bombs and explosives against political opponents in Rivers State, seeing it as a complete lack of respect for human life and a willingness to use violence for political gain.
“This violence shows a blatant disregard for human life,” the statement continued. “Using explosives and bombs against opponents is a serious violation of human rights and international law.”
CHRADA is calling on the Nigerian government to take action to protect its citizens and make sure those responsible are held accountable.
NIGERIANS ONLINE has reported that the ongoing political troubles in Rivers State have led to several attacks by unknown people. Supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have clashed during political events multiple times.
