Rangers coach Ilechukwu relieved after Bayelsa United victory, speaks on Abia Warriors clash
Rangers head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has expressed relief following his team’s narrow 1-0 win over Bayelsa United in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match played on Sunday, October 1, 2024, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
The victory came as a much-needed boost for the reigning NPFL champions, who have struggled to find the form that propelled them to the title last season. The Flying Antelopes had been under pressure to deliver after suffering a 2-1 defeat to title contenders Remo Stars the previous weekend.
Addressing the media in his post-match comments, Ilechukwu shared his thoughts on the game and the impact of the victory on his team’s morale ahead of their upcoming fixture against Abia Warriors in the Oriental Derby, scheduled for Sunday, October 6.
“We are so happy about the outcome of this game. This was a very important game for us. Before Bayelsa came, we already knew it was going to be a difficult encounter, but thank God we won the game, which will give my team the confidence and the belief needed for our next game against Abia Warriors,” Ilechukwu said.
The coach emphasized that his focus has now shifted to the clash against Abia Warriors, acknowledging the significance of the derby in maintaining momentum and building confidence as the team seeks to regain its championship form.
Rangers will be looking to leverage the confidence gained from their recent win to secure another positive result when they face Abia Warriors in a match that is anticipated to be fiercely contested.
