Police deny having custody of missing Ohanaeze Youth president

The Imo State Police Command has denied having any information regarding the whereabouts of Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the president of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), who was reported missing on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at around 7 p.m.
A family source told journalists that unidentified gunmen, dressed in black and numbering around seven, arrived in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV and stormed Igboayaka’s residence at Works Layout, Owerri, the Imo State capital, where they abducted him.
The family source also revealed that they became worried after repeated attempts to contact Igboayaka through his phone failed, as his lines were switched off immediately after the incident.
“Since this sad news broke, attempts by many members of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, family members, friends, and associates to reach him through his mobile lines to find out where he is have been unsuccessful,” the family source said.
In response to the abduction, the president of the Igbo National Council (INC), Chilos Godsent, has called on security agencies in the state, particularly the Nigerian Police Force, to investigate the incident and find those responsible for Igboayaka’s abduction.
The Imo State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye, issued a statement on Sunday, February 9, 2025, confirming that Igboayaka is not in their custody. He assured the public that the police had already begun an investigation to determine his whereabouts.
Okoye also urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could help uncover the perpetrators behind the abduction.
