Omah Lay explains how prison shaped his view on freedom

Afrobeats star Omah Lay has opened up about the positive impact of his prison ordeal in Uganda on his life and career.

Omah Lay and Tems were arrested and charged to court and subsequently detained in prison in Uganda for making an appearance at a concert held in the country at Speke Resort, Kampala, on December 12, 2020, despite COVID-19 social distancing regulations.

They were eventually granted bail after three days in jail.

Speaking in a recent interview with Amazon Music, Omah Lay stated that his jail experience shifted his perspective on freedom.

He said after the experience, his love for freedom increased, and he expressed it in every one of his songs.

“After being in that cell for three days, I just love my freedom so much now that I fight for it with every record… I don’t want to give Uganda so much credit for locking me up, but that shifted my perspective about freedom,” the ‘Soso’ crooner said.
