Ogun state government flags off maternal health and childcare week

The Ogun State government has launched the first round of the 2024 Optimised Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (OMNCHW) to improve maternal and child health in the state. The initiative, which began on July 20, aims to provide essential health care services to pregnant women and children, as stated by the Commissioner for Health, Tomi Coker.

The program offers free health services, including routine immunization, screening for malnutrition, birth registration, and administration of Tetanus Diphtheria vaccine for pregnant women.

Other services include Vitamin A supplementation, free counseling, and health education on key household practices. The government has renovated and equipped Primary Health Centres, employed personnel, and provided quality drugs to reinforce its commitment to healthcare delivery.

The program targets mothers and children to improve their wellness and well-being, ensuring no woman dies in childbirth, and no child dies of preventable diseases. Parents and caregivers are urged to take advantage of the program for children aged 0-5.

The Ikenne Local Government Chairman praised the state government and development partners for prioritizing the health of mothers and children.
