The Ogun State Government has officially handed over its 250-bed specialist hospital in Abeokuta to Viewpoint Health Management Services Limited and OAN African Capital Holdings to ensure its completion and operation. The facility is scheduled to begin partial operations in March 2025, with full operations set for June 2025.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, during the handover ceremony, stated that the hospital, located along the Presidential Boulevard, is 65% complete and will provide world-class healthcare services when fully operational. The project, initially started under the administration of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, had remained unfinished until the concession agreement was finalized.
“This facility will meet the precise needs of our population,” Abiodun said. “Viewpoint Health Management Services Limited, in partnership with HealthShare South Africa, will complete civil works, install additional equipment, and manage the hospital to ensure operations meet global standards.”
The governor emphasized that the hospital will be equipped with advanced technology and serve as a centre for medical research, training, and innovation. It will also be affiliated with the Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence, managed by King’s College Hospital, to enhance its credibility and scope of services.
Abiodun noted that the project aims to reduce the high costs of medical tourism abroad while boosting the local healthcare sector. “We are resolute in ensuring this world-class facility serves Ogun State and beyond, laying the foundation for long-term growth in healthcare,” he added.
Under the agreement, Viewpoint Health Management Services will oversee the hospital’s completion, manage its operations, and align its services with international best practices. The partnership, the governor said, underscores Ogun State’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and accessibility for its residents.
The hospital, when fully operational, is expected to enhance medical services within the state and contribute to Nigeria’s broader healthcare development goals.
