The Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned top government officials to explain the state of key road infrastructure after a fatal truck accident at the Uren bridge, which links Odogbolu and Ikenne local government areas.
The crash, believed to be caused by the bridge’s narrow and deteriorating condition, has raised concerns about road safety and overdue repairs.

The lawmakers say the session will help assess the state’s current road conditions and push for immediate action.
Speaker calls for urgent repairs
Speaker Oludaisi Elemide, who issued the summons during Thursday’s plenary, expressed sympathy to the families of the victims and called the situation “avoidable.”
“We must act now to prevent more tragedies like this,” he said, while acknowledging the government’s ongoing push for statewide infrastructure upgrades.
Long-standing issues, short-term fixes?
Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, who reported the accident on the Assembly floor, described the Uren bridge as “narrow, weak, and overdue for reconstruction.” He urged the government to extend its current work on the Ikenne–Mayflower road to include the Uren bridge, calling it a vital route for local commuters.
Both lawmakers pointed out that much of the current infrastructure pressure stems from backlogs inherited from previous administrations.
