NYSC urges outgoing corps members not to lose hope amid economic hardship

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has encouraged corps members completing their service not to lose faith in Nigeria, despite the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, gave this advice during the certificate distribution ceremony for the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 corps members in Bauchi State. He was represented by the Bauchi State Coordinator of the scheme, Kufre Umoren.

Addressing the graduating corps members, Nafiu described Nigeria as a land of immense opportunities and urged them to remain optimistic and proactive as they transition into the next phase of their lives.

“I want to encourage you, despite the harsh economic conditions, don’t lose hope in your country. You can still turn the situation around because Nigeria is a land of opportunities,” he said.

Highlighting the country’s untapped potential, he added:
“If you travel around the country, you will realize that there is no part of Nigeria that does not have mineral resources or one form of economic advantage.”

He praised Nigerian youth as resilient, hardworking, and inventive, and challenged them to rise to the occasion:
“Don’t give up. I have trust in your strength because the Nigerian youth are resilient, strong, hardworking, and ingenious.”

The NYSC DG also urged corps members not to return home to rely on their families but instead to think critically about how they can contribute economically and support their loved ones.

“This is not a time to go back to your parents and start eating their food again. It’s a time to think of how you can provide for and support them,” he advised.

He concluded by reminding the outgoing corps members that this period marks the beginning of important life decisions and encouraged them to plan wisely for their futures.

According to DAILY POST, a total of 1,054 corps members—comprising 584 males and 470 females—received their certificates of national service in Bauchi State.
