APC warns members in Taraba against accepting PDP appointments, threatens deregistration

The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to its members, prohibiting them from accepting political appointments from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in the state.

In a statement signed on Tuesday by the APC State Chairman, Barrister Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, the party declared that any member who violates this directive risks immediate expulsion from the party.

“No member of the party is permitted to accept appointments from the incumbent state government without an approval from the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC),” the statement read.

Citing Article 9.5 of the APC Constitution (Amended 2022), the party emphasised that members who take appointments from another political party in power without clearance from the NWC automatically forfeit their party membership.

“A person shall cease to be a member of the party if he accepts political appointment from another political party in government without the approval of the National Working Committee,” the statement stressed.

To enforce the directive, the APC has instructed all 168 ward chairmen in the state to expunge the names of any such individuals from the party’s register immediately. Local government chairmen in all 16 councils have also been directed to identify those who have accepted positions in the PDP-led administration and bar them from participating in the party’s upcoming electronic registration exercise.

The statement also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to loyal and principled members, assuring them that their steadfastness and discipline will be recognised.

“We thank all principled and law-abiding members for remaining steadfast and patient,” El-Sudi said.

The warning follows the recent inclusion of several APC members in a list of aides appointed by the PDP-led Taraba State government—a development that has reportedly caused discontent within the opposition party’s ranks.
