NNPC cuts fuel price by ₦55 in the FCT
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has slashed its pump price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to ₦890 per litre, down from ₦945, across its retail outlets in Abuja.
According to a DAILY POST report on Thursday, the price drop has taken effect at NNPCL mega stations, including locations at Danziyal Plaza, Central Area, Wuse Zone 4, and Zone 6.
Falling prices across stations
This development aligns with a broader trend among filling stations. For example, MRS Empire Energy also adjusted its prices on Thursday—cutting rates to ₦885 and ₦946 per litre, down from ₦910 and ₦955, respectively.
What’s driving the price drop?
The reduction is likely tied to a ₦30 cut in ex-depot prices (the wholesale rate at depots) by Dangote Refinery, which recently dropped petrol prices from ₦850 to ₦820 per litre.
In addition, declining crude oil prices on the global market are contributing to downward pressure on local fuel prices.
What to expect next
While this is a modest but notable relief for consumers, it’s unclear if the trend will spread to other parts of the country or remain limited to certain retail chains.
However, with refinery competition increasing and global oil prices fluctuating, more price adjustments may be on the horizon.
