Nigeria reaches major milestone in power supply – Adelabu
On Sunday, September 29, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced that over 40 percent of Nigerians are now enjoying 20 hours of power supply each day.
In a statement, Adelabu attributed this achievement to significant reforms implemented by the Ministry of Power, with backing from President Bola Tinubu. He noted that these efforts are part of Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda aimed at boosting the economy.
“The generation of over 5,500 megawatts of power is one of our key successes in the past year,” Adelabu said. He emphasized that ongoing improvements are expected by the end of the year.
He pointed out that reliable electricity is essential for industries, businesses, institutions, and homes. “Most developed nations have achieved this, and we must prioritize it in Nigeria to drive economic growth,” he added.
President Tinubu highlighted the importance of stable electricity in his New Year’s speech on January 1, stating that it is vital for economic progress and industrial development.
Adelabu also outlined the administration’s goal to ensure that households, businesses, and institutions—including schools and hospitals—have a stable power supply. This initiative is designed to empower these sectors, improve their operations, and create more job opportunities.
The Ministry is collaborating with various agencies, 27 power-generating companies, and 11 electricity distribution companies to meet its objectives. With President Tinubu’s continued support, Adelabu reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing Nigerians with consistent and reliable electricity.
