NFF suspends referee over shocking penalty blunder in NNL match

On Monday, May 26, the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) Referee Development Committee announced the suspension of Adebayo Qudus from officiating games in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Qudus was the centre referee during the recent match between Gateway United and Sporting Lagos, where he was accused of awarding an “unjustified penalty” and making several other decisions that didn’t follow the official Laws of the Game.

According to the NFF statement signed by Ameenu Mohammed, these mistakes caused serious disruption and made people question the fairness of the match.

The letter to Qudus said,
“Your actions and performances did not only negatively affect the integrity of refereeing but equally brought the game to disrepute.”

The NFF stressed that suspending Qudus is a way to protect Nigerian football’s reputation and to show they won’t tolerate poor refereeing.
