NAFDAC warns Nigerians against counterfeit cowbell ‘our milk’ sachets

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to the circulation of counterfeit 12g Cowbell “Our Milk” sachets across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, the agency said the fake products mimic the discontinued Cowbell “Our Milk” packaging, which Promasidor Nigeria Ltd stopped producing in September 2023 and replaced with Cowbell Our Creamy Goodness.

According to NAFDAC, the counterfeit sachets unlawfully carry the Cowbell brand name, NAFDAC registration number, and packaging design, despite not being manufactured or distributed by Promasidor.

“The counterfeit products currently in circulation are imitations of the discontinued ‘Our Milk’ packaging and are not manufactured or distributed by Promasidor,” the agency stated.

The regulator expressed concerns over the potential health hazards of consuming the fake milk. It warned that counterfeit dairy products may contain toxic chemicals, unapproved additives, or diluted ingredients, leading to foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, or even death in severe cases. Vulnerable groups such as infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly at risk.

NAFDAC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, avoid purchasing the counterfeit sachets, and report suspected fake products to the agency.
