Trump jokingly claims FIFA world cup trophy during oval office visit
U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday playfully attempted to claim the FIFA World Cup trophy during a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the Oval Office.
Infantino had brought the iconic trophy to Washington, D.C., ahead of the draw for the 2026 men’s World Cup, scheduled to take place at the Kennedy Center. While handing the cup to Trump, the FIFA boss reminded him that the trophy was “only for winners.”
In response, Trump who won the 2016 and 2024 presidential elections jokingly declared that it was now his, asking, “Can I keep it?! We’re not giving it back! We’re not giving it back!”
The light-hearted moment drew laughter but underscored the anticipation surrounding the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
