In the wake of a devastating petrol tanker explosion that claimed over 170 lives in the Majia community, Minister of Petroleum Resources Heineken Lokpobiri has pledged decisive action to prevent future tragedies.
Lokpobiri, who led a condolence visit to the governor and people of Jigawa State, described the incident as “the most tragic event in recent times” and urged Nigerians to recognize the dangers of approaching accident scenes to scoop fuel.
To address the issue, the Ministry has outlined measures including attaching road safety personnel to all depots to ensure vehicles are certified road-worthy before departure. Lokpobiri also called for a collaborative effort with governors to educate citizens on the risks associated with petrol accidents and fuel scooping.
