Man City wins 4th consecutive title, breaks English record
Pep Guardiola was a happy man after the final whistle on Sunday, May 19, when his team faced off against West Ham in the final game of the league season.
Man City had only needed to match Arsenal’s result to secure the league title, but a win would have guaranteed it.
Man City had a relatively routine game against David Moyes’s men, going 2-0 up in the first 20 minutes, and never in danger of losing the lead or the game, even when West Ham pulled one back to make it 2-1.
Man City was not interested in creating any excitement, opening the scoring in the second minute through Premier League Player of the Year (POTY) Phil Foden. The masterful midfielder doubled Man City’s lead in the 18th minute.
Mohammed Kudus pulled one back with a spectacular strike in the 42nd minute, but Man City killed any hope of a comeback in the 59th minute when Rodri scored his eighth league goal of the season to make it 3-1.
This win ensured a fourth consecutive league title, making Pep Guardiola’s men the first to win four league titles in a row in English football history.
