Man arrested for stealing seven bikes in two weeks in Cross River

A 30-year-old man identified as Kelvin is currently in police custody for allegedly stealing seven motorcycles within a fortnight. The suspect met his Waterloo in Okpoma, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, following a series of reports from frustrated residents.
The suspect reportedly specialized in targeting crowded gatherings, particularly burial ceremonies, to carry out his operations. Residents noticed a strange pattern of motorcycle disappearances whenever a wake-keep or burial event took place in the community.
Suspect targets burial ceremonies for operations
Kelvin allegedly frequented these events and waited for moments of distraction to tamper with motorcycle ignitions. Once successful, he would discreetly ride the bikes away from the venue without raising any suspicion among the mourners.
A motorcycle operator in the area, Odey Hope, described the suspect as a serial thief who seemed very familiar with local burial schedules. He noted that while the suspect confessed to stealing seven bikes, the actual number of missing motorcycles in the area is much higher.
Stolen motorcycles sold at cheap prices
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to disposing of the stolen properties in neighboring villages. He allegedly sold the motorcycles at giveaway prices to unsuspecting buyers looking for quick deals.
Kelvin also made personal claims linking some of his actions to a domestic dispute, though authorities have not verified this information. Following his apprehension by the local community, he was handed over to the Divisional Police Station in Okpoma for further investigation and prosecution.
