Robert Redford, the legendary actor, director, and producer, has passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at his Utah home.
His longtime publicist, Cindi Berger, confirmed that Redford died early Tuesday morning in his sleep at his Sundance residence, surrounded by family. “He will be missed greatly,” she said, while requesting privacy for the family.
Born Charles Robert Redford Jr. on August 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, Redford shot to international fame with his role alongside Paul Newman in the 1969 classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
After two decades as a leading man, he moved behind the camera, earning an Academy Award for Best Director. He also co-founded the Sundance Film Festival, a major platform for independent filmmakers worldwide.
