Labour leaders hold meeting as FG stays silent on discussions

On Wednesday, October 16, the Federal Government and Organised Labour did not share any details after their meeting earlier in the day.

Sources revealed that the talks focused on recent petrol price hikes and how they affect everyday Nigerians, as well as discussions about the minimum wage. However, neither side was willing to share what was discussed.

Meanwhile, leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are having a joint National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Labour House in Abuja.

According to reliable sources, this meeting is a follow-up to the earlier discussion with government representatives, where they talked about the impact of the fuel price increase, the minimum wage, adjustments related to compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, and fueling points.

Some of the government officials at the earlier meeting included Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Labour Minister; and Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, among others.

At the joint meeting for Organised Labour, several important leaders were present, including NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, Deputy President Kabiru Ado Sani, and General Secretary Comrade Emma Ugboaja. TUC leaders, like Deputy President Dr. Tommy Etim Okon and Secretary General Nuhu Toro, were also there, along with representatives from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

As of now, the meeting is still ongoing, and updates will follow once the discussions conclude.
