‘It’s karma’ – Pat Utomi on Nigeria’s seized presidential jets
Political economist Prof. Pat Utomi shared how he became a victim of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s contract violations on Sunday, August 18.
Utomi explained that he had leased land from the Ogun State Property & Investment Corporation (OPIC) in Lagos under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement signed during the administration of former Governor Gbenga Daniel. However, when Amosun took office, he stopped honoring the contract.
In a post on his X handle, Utomi linked Amosun’s breach of the contract to the recent embarrassment of having Nigerian presidential jets seized, calling it “karma at work.”
He stated, “So it was Gov Amosun’s violation of contract terms signed by his predecessor that brought the shame of seizure of jets from the Presidential fleet. I hope he is happy at his achievement. The whole matter is karma at work. The Chinese were not the only victims.”
Utomi continued, “One prominent Ogun indigene allegedly committed suicide due to similar actions by Amosun. I too was a victim. I had leased OPIC land in Lagos in a BOT agreement under Gov Daniel. Amosun stopped all such agreements when he took office. I called him, and he said he did not see my name on the list. I traveled to Abeokuta, and he called in Yewande Amusan, who said mine was a straightforward deal that was not included. He asked that all be included but wanted mine sorted quickly. That started a process that dragged on for years.”
