Governor Radda dismisses ADC-led opposition coalition as “recycled politicians”

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a gathering of “recycled politicians” with no fresh solutions for Nigeria’s challenges.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 8, during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a current affairs programme on Channels Television, Radda criticized the credibility and motives of the coalition’s leaders, accusing them of being driven by a loss of power rather than genuine concern for national progress.
“Let’s be realistic. Let’s tell ourselves the truth. The time for deceiving Nigerians is over,” Radda said.
He questioned the integrity of the coalition’s leadership, claiming many of them held significant positions in previous administrations but failed to deliver meaningful change.
“Who was not in the government in the last regime? Who is not in government? We know the track record of everyone. They are now crying and shouting because they are outside of the government,” he added.
Radda also challenged the group to articulate a clear policy direction, especially on critical national issues such as fuel subsidy.
“Let them come and tell Nigerians, are they going to bring the subsidy back? And with what resources are they going to run the government and pay for it?” he asked.
The ADC-led coalition recently announced its interim leadership, with former Senate President David Mark as chairman, former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola as secretary, and Bolaji Abdullahi as spokesperson.
Despite the high-profile names, Governor Radda insisted the coalition offers nothing new and called on Nigerians to be wary of political figures attempting to rebrand themselves after years in power.
The coalition has yet to issue a detailed response to Radda’s remarks.
