Timi Frank condemns killing of unarmed protesters in Kenya, calls for international intervention

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has strongly condemned the killing of unarmed protesters in Kenya by security forces, calling the action barbaric and unacceptable in a democracy.

Frank made the statement on Tuesday, July 8, as reports, including from CNN, confirmed that at least 11 people have been killed amid ongoing anti-government protests in Kenya.

The demonstrations coincided with the 35th anniversary of the historic Saba Saba protests of July 7, 1990, a landmark event that marked Kenya’s push for multi-party democracy.

Reacting to the violence, Frank appealed directly to Kenyan President William Ruto, urging him to immediately halt the killings and order security agencies to exercise restraint.

“It is time to stop these avoidable murders,” Frank said, emphasizing the need for the Kenyan government to uphold the rule of law in addressing the protests rather than resorting to force.

He also demanded the unconditional release of all detained protesters and expressed condolences to the families of those killed.

“They would be remembered as those who died fighting for a better future for their country,” he added.

In his statement, Frank called on United Nations officials and U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene and hold President Ruto accountable for what he described as “dictatorial actions.”

“It is wrong to kill protesters. Instead of killing them, it is the duty of government to protect them,” Frank said, citing how protests in the United States have been managed without resorting to lethal force.

“We saw recently when there was protest against Trump. They did not deploy the National Guard to kill the protesters but rather to protect them, and that is what democracy is all about,” he concluded.

The ongoing unrest in Kenya has sparked international concern, with observers warning that a heavy-handed response could deepen public distrust in government institutions and further escalate tensions.
