Gov Umo Eno signs ₦695bn supplementary budget, releases ₦60bn to contractors

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has signed into law the ₦695 billion supplementary budget recently passed by the State House of Assembly, assuring residents of transparent and effective implementation of government projects.

Speaking after assenting to the budget, Eno commended the State Legislature for the speedy passage of the Appropriations Bill and reiterated his administration’s commitment to accountability and service delivery.

“With the supplementary budget today, we are further fired up to ensure full implementation of government programmes and projects as contained in the budget,” the governor said.

The governor also announced the immediate release of ₦60 billion to contractors whose Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) were ready. He directed heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Delivery Advisors, to ensure strict adherence to project timelines and standards.

At the October Project Delivery Meeting, the government reviewed progress across key sectors, including the Tree Crop Revolution, State Electricity Market, Tourism Destination Marketing, Arise Senior Citizens Centre, Arise Resort, Ibom Tourism Summit, Renovation of Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, and the Oron Maritime and Jetty Project.

Other projects appraised include the CNG City Bus Project, AKBC House, Ikot Ekpene International Market, Assembly Complex Renovation, Court of Appeal Complex, Itam Industrial Park, Ibom Model Farm, RAMP Project, Ibom International Hospital, and the construction of General Hospitals in Ukanafun and Ibiono Ibom LGAs.

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, lauded the governor’s delivery review process, describing it as “a strong oversight function that gives a clear understanding of ongoing projects across sectors.”
