Fubara defends peace deal with Wike, says no sacrifice too big for Rivers stability

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that no sacrifice is too great in the pursuit of peace, stability, and progress in the state, following his recent reconciliation with former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking to his supporters in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Governor Fubara acknowledged the disappointment felt by some loyalists but emphasized that every step, including the peace deal, was made in the best interest of Rivers people. “Difficult times call for difficult decisions and concessions,” he stated.

He explained that the reconciliation process was not a unilateral decision. According to the governor, all moves were carefully discussed with stakeholders and allies within his political circle before they were made public.

While admitting the pain the new political realities might cause for his supporters, Fubara stressed that the long-term peace and stability of Rivers State outweigh personal or political gains. “This is not about me it is about the future of our dear state,” he said.

The governor also lamented the delays in development projects across the state due to the protracted political crisis. However, he expressed hope that with reconciliation underway, governance and project execution would regain momentum.

Fubara acknowledged the pivotal role Wike played in his emergence as governor, stating that their shared political history cannot be erased. He further revealed that President Bola Tinubu had personally intervened and directed both parties to reconcile in the interest of the state.

Urging his supporters to continue trusting his leadership, the governor appealed for calm and cooperation. “Now is the time to show loyalty, even if immediate political rewards are not visible,” he said. “Let us embrace peace and allow Rivers State to heal and move forward.”
