Ubi Franklin gives No. 1 reason for pregnancy clause in contracts

Nigerian talent manager Ubi Franklin has revealed why his record label, Made Men Music Group (Triple MG), includes a “no pregnancy” clause in contracts signed with female artistes.

What did Ubi Franklin actually say?

Speaking on the Culture Sonic podcast, Franklin said the decision stems from concerns about how pregnancy can disrupt an artiste’s career, especially for those still building a fanbase or industry presence.

“So just imagine that you’re investing in a female artiste and she gets pregnant — that is over, because it would take a lot for her to come back,” he said.

Franklin emphasized that he’s not against female artistes becoming mothers, but believes they should first solidify their careers.

“I’m not saying they can’t have children, but first build a strong career. If I am signing a female artiste, I always put it in the contract that they will not get pregnant for the duration of the contract,” he added.

His comments have sparked debate online, with critics questioning whether such a clause violates the artiste’s rights, while others argue it’s a business decision aimed at protecting investments.
