Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has inaugurated a 21-member committee to assess and respond to the recent flood disaster that affected parts of Yola, the state capital, earlier in the week.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, is expected to identify relief measures for affected communities and propose strategies for long-term post-flood recovery and resilience.
According to a statement issued Friday evening by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the committee will also examine the impact of the flooding on infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods across the affected areas.

Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa, member representing Yola South LGA in the State House of Assembly

Bello Hammamdira, Commissioner for Relief, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation

Mohammed Wali, Commissioner for Environment

A representative from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)

The Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA)

Governor Fintiri charged the committee to be fair, transparent, and thorough in its work, stressing the urgency of providing immediate relief to victims while also preparing a robust long-term recovery plan.
He also emphasised the need for accurate data gathering and collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure that resources reach the most vulnerable and affected populations.
The governor’s directive follows growing concerns from residents about the severity of the flood, which left many displaced and critical infrastructure damaged.
