A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Dino Melaye, has said that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is playing a key role in rescuing Nigeria from what he described as the “satanic manifestation” of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.
Melaye made the statement during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Friday.
While clarifying that Atiku has not yet declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, the former Kogi West senator said the former Vice President is working behind the scenes to rally credible Nigerians who can help reset the country’s direction.
“Atiku is yet to declare his intentions to run for the 2027 elections, but what Atiku is doing is rescuing this country, bringing together men of honour and valour to correct the satanic manifestation of APC in this country,” he said.
Melaye, who was previously a member of the APC before returning to the PDP and now aligning with the ADC, openly expressed regret over supporting the APC’s rise to power.
“I regret bringing APC to power, and through the Lord’s Prayer, I confess my sins. Anyone who has moved with the devil and an unholy tendency should regret it,” he said.
He described the current state of the country under APC rule as the worst in its history.
“It is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that we are in a precarious situation in this country; it has never been this disastrous and terrible,” Melaye added.
The former lawmaker concluded by echoing a spiritual reflection on his past political choices: “I regret in totality, just like you, supporting the APC. Once I was blind, now I can see.”
Melaye’s comments add to the growing rhetoric among opposition figures seeking to challenge the APC’s grip on power ahead of the 2027 general elections.
