Nollywood mourns as actress Omotola Odunsi passes on

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning yet again following the death of fast-rising Nollywood actress, Omotola Odunsi.

Her death was confirmed on Thursday by her colleague, Akinola Akano, popularly known as Segbowe, who took to Instagram to share an emotional tribute alongside screenshots of their last chat.

In the chat, Omotola had assured him that she was feeling better after an illness.

“Motola! Strange but I tried checking on you at the wee hours of that morning. You said you were FINE & BACK! This is a rude shock, Omotola! Journey well, sister. God be with your family,” Segbowe wrote.

Veteran Yoruba actor Odunlade Adekola, under whose mentorship Omotola trained, also expressed shock at the news. Reacting on social media, he simply wrote: “Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola.”

Omotola Odunsi featured in several Yoruba-language films during her career, including Lisabi: The Uprising, Officer Adaeze, Amonata, Ayanmo Ire, and Ifedayo, earning praise for her strong screen presence and emotional depth.

Fans and fellow actors have continued to pay tribute to the late actress, describing her as talented, humble, and full of promise.
