Euro 2024: Lamine Yamal glows as Spain dumps out France

The first half of the Euro 2024 final has been decided with a magnificent comeback victory from Luis De La Fuente’s Spain against Didier Deschamps’s France on the night of Tuesday, July 9.

Spain continued to be the most dominant nation in this edition of the Euros, but a chink seemed to appear in its armour when France took the lead in the ninth minute through a Randal Kolo Muani goal.

However, in the 21st minute, FC Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal curled one in from outside the penalty area to draw Spain level.

It was not long after that Dani Olmo showed a bit of skill in France’s penalty area and struck hard at the bottom corner. In an attempt to block the shot, Jules Kounde seemed to turn the ball into his own net, and it was initially given as an own goal against him, but the “Dubious Goals Panel” later awarded the goal to Dani Olmo.

Even though Olmo’s goal was scored in the 25th minute, no other goal was scored despite playing for over 65 minutes more.

This puts Spain as the first team to qualify for the final of Euro 2024. The second team will be decided on Wednesday, July 10, when England faces Netherlands in the other semifinal clash.
